Black is Beautiful: Buffalo brewery collaboration

Buffalo breweries are proud to announce our Black is Beautiful collaboration.

The Black is Beautiful initiative, which was started by Weathered Souls Brewery in Texas, is a collaborative effort amongst the brewing community and its customers, in an attempt to bring awareness to the injustices that many people of color face daily. To date, nearly 1,000 breweries have joined the cause. More information can be found here: https://blackisbeautiful.beer/

Our Buffalo-area collaboration will involve Big Ditch Brewing Company, Resurgence Brewing Company, and Thin Man Brewery. Each brewery brewed a different version of the Black is Beautiful recipe and will be releasing their versions independently on July 11th. 100% of proceeds from each brewery will be donated to Partnership for the Public Good, VOICE Buffalo, and Open Buffalo.

Partnership for the Public Good is a community-based think tank that provides research and advocacy support to a broad range of partners. Each year, their partners use a democratic process to create a Community Agenda: ten ways that state and local government can act to improve Buffalo Niagara in the coming year. One of PPGs missions in 2020 is to implement a Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program to reduce arrests and racial disparities, in partnership with the City of Buffalo, the Erie County District Attorney, the Erie County Departments of Health and Mental Health, and community organizations. LEAD gives police officers an alternative to arrest in incidents driven by poverty, mental health, or substance use and prevents harm to individuals in need of services. https://ppgbuffalo.org/

VOICE Buffalo's mission is to faithfully bring forth social justice and equity in our region through organized, collective action. Their core focus is improvements to accessibility, disparities for immigrants, economic equity for Black businesses, and criminal justice reform. https://voicebuffalo.org/

Open Buffalo's mission is to advance racial, economic, and ecological justice through skill building, network connecting, and activating leadership opportunities. Their goal is for all communities in Western New York to thrive free from discrimination and poverty. Open Buffalo accomplishes their mission via leadership development and advocating for equitable economic development for communities of color, immigrants and refugees, the LGBTQI community, senior citizens, women, and those who are differently-abled. https://openbuffalo.org/

The Black is Beautiful base recipe is an imperial stout. The versions made by each brewery are:

Big Ditch - Brewed with 8 different malts, then conditioned on Ghanaian cocoa, toasted marshmallow, and milk sugar. Limited bottles and draft will be available at Big Ditch. 10.0% ABV

Resurgence - Brewed with lactose and aged on butterfinger candy pieces, cocoa nibs and hot fudge. Limited draft will be available at Resurgence. 9.3% ABV

Thin Man - Brewed with British malt, oats & a blend of caramel malts. The beer features notes of espresso, dark chocolate, toffee & roast. A limited run of cans will be available at Thin Man. 10.5% ABV

We hope you will join us in support of this powerful mission on July 11th.

THE FINAL CHOCOLATE HAYBURNER CAN HAS BEEN FOUND!

THE FINAL CHOCOLATE HAYBURNER CAN HAS BEEN FOUND!

Pat and Mike Murphy picked up a sixpack of Hayburner at Losson Road Wegmans on June 6th and discovered the elusive Buffalo-area can by June 11th.

They stopped in to claim their prize - the equivalent of one case of Hayburner a month for a year - and enjoyed a patio lunch with us on Monday June 15th. Congrats Pat and Mike! Good luck with your new found popularity, haha!

Thanks to everyone who "played" over the last few months. We hope this contest was a fun distraction from an otherwise tough time for so many of us. And for those that didn't win - who knows? Maybe we'll try this stunt again someday! Thanks for your support. 🍻
